Car saga at an end

Some good news from the weekend and today.

The head gasket on my car will not have to be replaced, at least for now. Brought it to a guy my dad really trusts with cars and he says the leak was basically extremely small and should be nothing to worry about for now. So I can save that $875 for another day.

My car passed inspection after a 2nd try. It helps when you have the proper month sticker on your license plate.

I’m enjoying vacation so far. Feels odd not working…it is all I have done since I graduated last May from SNHU. In fact, when you throw college classes in there, until today I didn’t have a vacation since 2 years ago since I worked every single break I had.

Day two tomorrow is going to be a blast. Yearly checkup at the doctor. Fun stuff.

Season 4 has ended

I just recently discovered 24, just hours before the first episode of Season 4 aired. I have been hooked on every minute of the show since. In fact, all season long, I have watched all but 20 minutes total of the season.

I can see why everyone is hooked by this show. What an ending to Season 4…with plenty of possibilities to go with on Season 5.

Why do we have to wait till January? Why? :(

Episode 3

I saw Episode 3. By far the best of the prequels and to me, better then Return of the Jedi.

The battles were spectacular. Anakin’s transformation into Vader was done just right. The Emperor should get an oscar for his performance…I was amazed by what he could do. The execution of Order 66 was perfect, exactly as I have always imagined. I was very impressed with the Obi-Wan/Vader duel.

There are really only two parts that I did not like. Padme dying of basically a broken heart was a tad too unbelievable for my tastes. I can understand having a crushed lung or something from what Vader did to her, but not a broken heart.

Finally, the ending was a tad rushed. I would have liked to see a little more of what happens. Just 10-20 extra minutes to the movie would really tie up the loose ends.

The dialogue was fine…it met Star Wars standards (which aren’t very high when it comes to dialogue) and it had me hooked. Everyone says that Padme wasn’t believable…but I found it the exact opposite, I thought she did very well.

That said, it is by far the best of the prequels. I enjoyed it and it saddens me that this is the end of the Star Wars movies.

Vacation is here!

Well, I am officially on my first vacation since 2001. Yes!

For the first part of next week I will be here just relaxing and doing some work on the apartment. Next Thursday I fly out to Nashville to help Justin move in.

What to do with all of this free time? :)

Phishing

Matt has an interesting post about a phishing e-mail he received trying to trick him into going to a site that claimed to be Windows Update but really wasn’t.

I posted this reply in his comments area, but I thought I would share it here too:

Wow. That is tricky.

The other day, I got this phishing e-mail. It was brilliantly designed. Basically it is made to look like one of those e-mails that are sent to you if you get an e-card from someone. It looked totally legit. Except, I didn’t notice that it said “Hello!” instead of “Hello Chris!” and it didn’t say who sent it, like an e-card notification normally said.

But I didn’t catch it. I was totally fooled and clicked before I saw the URL. Norton thankfully caught the virus and stopped it.

What a scare though. First time I ever fell for an e-mail scam.

To me, it is even scarier then Matt’s Windows Update e-mail. Because at least those who are educated know that Microsoft doesn’t send e-mails about security updates. An e-card…well, who hasn’t gotten one?

Thunderbird will be the first e-mail client to have built-in phishing protection when version 1.1 is released. Gmail already has very good phishing protection on their service. Thankfully, my entire family uses Gmail, so they are well protected from these scams…until the next scam comes along that defeats it.

Projects

One thing I have always wanted to do with my web site is coming up with some original content that I can call as my own. Blog posts is one aspect of that, but I want to create some articles and perhaps even stories that I can make available to everyone who stumbles upon this site.

So I created a projects section of this site, which will soon start listing some articles and like I said, even some original stories perhaps that I have come up with. Maybe something as simple as this can turn into a hobby, a fun one at that.

Bye Chip

One of our new fish, which we named Chip, has already passed away. One day he was fine, the next he stopped eating, was doing corkscrews in the tank, and floated upside down when he wasn’t moving. I reasonably guessed that wasn’t a good sign. Not good.

The other one, Dale, appears to be fine so far. Although Tiger Barbs prefer to be in groups of 4 to 6. So he will need some company soon.

Perhaps if my car doesn’t need a new head gasket…
