Google Safe Browsing

Google Safe Browsing is a cool new extension for Mozilla Firefox 1.5 that helps prevent you from falling to a phishing scam on the web.

It is extremely cool how it works. Here is a screenshot of a test page Google has setup:

As you can clearly see, Google puts up a very noticable ballon-style tooltip pointing to the address bar, while darkening the rest of the web page. The tooltip clearly and noticably states that this page is most likely a illegal attempt to get personal/financial information from you.

I hope this becomes an integrated feature in not just Firefox, but other major browsers. What a noticable, simple, and effective way to protect users from phishing attacks.

I plan on installing this on my family/relatives computers to protect them. It should be a must use extension for all Firefox users. Check that, ALL internet users.

Tomorrow

Tomorrow Katie and I are going to the Apple Store in Salem, NH so she can buy an iPod Shuffle with a gift certificate her dad gave her. Perfect timing really, as she is going to fly out to Florida tomorrow to be with her mom & sister during Christmas. So assuming the Salem store actually has iPod Shuffles in stock (she is going to get the 512MB model), she should have one for her flight, which she will love.
My bro Dan will be over tomorrow night and then Justin will be taking a bus to Manchester on Friday. The three of us are then going to drive up to Sunapee for Christmas.

It is going to be really weird not being with Katie during Christmas. I guess that whole missing her thing will hit pretty hard this weekend. But it should be a good break and we are going to actually celebrate our Christmas tomorrow morning together. So maybe it won’t be bad. I know it will be good to see my family and relatives again. I was with Katie’s family for Thanksgiving, so it has been a long time since I have seen a few family members.

Oh did I mention I hate car insurance companies?

Note to self

When you buy a Mac, buy a 1 GB stick of RAM. Man does my iMac fly now with 1.5 GB of memory!

The transition to using a Mac continues to be going really well. While I am tying this out now on my XP laptop (since Katie is buying music on iTunes with the Mac), this is the first time I have turned on my laptop since last Friday. I literally have been using the Mac for my everyday computing needs.

I absolutely love it. I know I have said it before, but a Mac really shows what a computer could be capable of if it worked the way it should!

Upgraded to WP 2.0 RC3

Just upgraded the blog to Release Candidate 3 for WordPress 2.0.

Why did I do this on a live blog?

I have been playing along with it for a few days on my iMac. It is a stellar upgrade for WordPress, if only for the integrated WYSIWYG editor. Seems to be working extremely well.

So I decided to live dangerous and give it a go on a live blog.

While I wouldn’t recommend upgrading to RC3 until the final version of 2.0 is out, I do recommend at least doing a test install of it. That way, you can easily check out the new features and make sure you can do a safe upgrade.

Car accidents suck

Yep. It happened again. Luckly no one was hurt and there isn’t much damage (right rear bumper area is pretty torn up though).

Basically got rear-ended on the highway.
