Current Hardware I Use
At work, it is a 2006-era Apple Macbook Pro 15.4″ with a 2.16GHz Intel Core Duo processor, 80GB HD, and 2GB of RAM. For tasks I do at work, it can handle it, although it is showing its age.
For home, my wife and I share a mid-2010 Apple Macbook Pro 13.3″ with a 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 250GB HD, and 4GB of RAM.
The main reading and travel device I use is my first generation Apple iPad 32-GB Wi-Fi model. Perfect for when I just want to browse the web, read RSS feeds, read e-mail, watch video, etc.
My phone is an Apple iPhone 4. Best phone I have ever had. iOS 4 has really given the iPhone some fantastic new features such as multitasking.
The home network includes an Apple Time Capsule (500GB), a PlayStation 3, and a HP PhotoSmart C7280.
Current Software I Use
At work, almost all of my duties are done using web-based in-house software or products such as RT3. I am a heavy user of Terminal to do dig and whois lookups. I am excited to find DTerm as it will make these lookups even easier for me to do. I use NeoOffice for the few times I need to open a Word or Excel file at work. We are heavy users of IM at work and for that, Adium gets the job done. For e-mail and calendar at work, I use Mail and iCal. Since I often have to investigate shady web sites, I use VirtualBox to have a fresh Ubuntu image loaded up for security reasons.
All my Twitter activities use Tweetie, which was just purchased by Twitter itself.
For web browsing, I have been alternating between Firefox and Chrome. I was one of the original testers for the Phoenix project that eventually became Firefox, so it is hard to break away from it since it is so familiar to me. I love Firefox’s power, but it is definitely slower then Google Chrome and Chrome fits in a tad more with OS X.
At home, I use Gmail for e-mail although I usually read it with Mail and manage my calendar with iCal. I am a heavy user of iPhoto and iTunes. I use Transmit, 1Password, and many other little Mac apps that I like to purchase to keep those developers afloat. Most of my other activities take place in the web.
I am a heavy user of DynDNS services at home for remote access and to host my web sites. Good news is, I know who to contact if something is broken…me…doh.
Dream Setup
For home, it would be nice to have an iMac that always stays here. I think if I had that, there is a good chance I would rely on my iPad and iPhone for my mobile computing needs. Failing that, I would probably get a brand new 13″ Macbook Pro.
At work, obviously any new Macbook Pro would make me very happy
